Newsletter – December 2024

We have had another fun-filled, busy month.  Our children have begun to enjoy the winter season and begun the preparations for Christmas!  We are limiting the amount of time we spend outside due to the cold weather.  We are instead enjoying shorter, more purposeful outdoor experiences throughout the day.

Thank you to all parents who attended Parents’ Evening.  We hope this provided useful insight into your children’s journey at nursery.  Following on from parents evening, we have placed parental questionnaires in the entrance if you would like to provide feedback about the nursery.

We are expecting children’s photo orders to be returned to the nursery week commencing the 2nd December.  We will distribute the photos as soon as possible!

Monday 9th December and Wednesday 11th December:
Children’s breakfast with Santa!  Children will enjoy a visit from Santa from 9am-10am. The children will enjoy a festive treat and hot milk with Santa.

Tuesday 17th December:
Preschool Carol Concert 2pm. All Sunflower children are invited to attend.

Friday 20th December:
All children are invited into nursery to enjoy a Christmas party morning.  This will be from 10am – 11am.  There will be a special visit from Father Christmas.

Monday 23rd December:
Kevin the Clown – Children’s entertainment show for Tulip room and Sunflower room.  If your child does not attend Monday’s, you can book to watch the show at a cost of £10.  Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

Christmas Closing dates:
Tuesday 24th December – Wednesday 1st January.  We reopen our doors on Thursday 2nd January.

With the arrival of darker evenings and colder weather, we have made some changes to our collection routine to ensure everyone’s comfort and safety.  We are now using our spacious front rooms for end-of-day activities.  These warm, welcoming spaces allow children to enjoy calm, indoor activities and a snack before children transition home.

Benefits of the new arrangement:

• No more waiting outside in the cold
• More comfortable space for parents during collection (Tulip room’s cloakroom area)
• A relaxed environment for children’s end-of-day activities

To support these changes, I am now spending more time in the rooms during collection times.  This allows our key workers to bring children to you at the door and provide comprehensive updates about your child’s day. I believe these adjustments will make collection time a more pleasant experience for everyone during the winter months.

Festive Mathematics:
Count decorations together, make patterns with wrapping paper, or sort baubles by size and colour.  These everyday activities build early numeracy skills naturally.

Winter Stories & Language:
Share winter-themed books and encourage your child to join in with repeated phrases.  Talk about winter changes you notice outdoors together – frost, bare trees, and early dark evenings all provide great conversation starters.

Auntie Nikki!  Nikki continues to shine in her role, showing wonderful dedication to the children and nursery.  She regularly shares creative ideas and teaching practices with her fellow staff members, helping our whole team grow and learn together.  Her commitment to excellence makes her a valuable member of our nursery family.
